It can be difficult to distinguish between a printout from a good-quality ink-jet and a standard laser printer. Scanners Scanners read word, symbols and other graphics from a printed page and ‘translate’ the pattern of light and dark (or colour) into a digital signal the computer can and manipulate. Flatbed scanners illuminate the sheet of the item to be scanned by passing a bright bar of light over the page.

The reflected light is detected by photosensitive cells assembled into a picture. Scanners are very useful if you have large amount of text that needs to be copied into your word processor. Disk drives: This is a storage device that transfers data to and from a magnetic optical disk.
